Get Out of My Way!
This has long been a pet peeve of mine, but recently it seems to be happening all too often.
I tend to think about public walking the same way I do about driving.
You stay to the right, and if you need to pass someone you go around
them on the left if the path is clear. But when you're driving down a
two lane highway, rarely do you come across a situation where two cars
are occupying both lanes and heading your way.
So what exactly is the proper etiquette when you're walking down a
sidewalk, corridor or grocery aisle side by side with someone having a
conversation, and another person starts to head towards you from the
proper direction?
Maybe it's because people treat me as if I'm invisible, but whenever
I'm the one walking towards two people side by side, they don't budge.
I end up having to veer off into the grass and mud, or when there's a
confined space involved, I just have to stand there pressed up against
the wall until one of them finally realizes that there's a solid object
in their path. I usually get looks too like "Hey, we're walking AND
talking here! We have the right of way. 'Cause we're talking."
So is this just another crazy "me" thing or does this happen to you as well?
