Your host is back up to 95% or so this week, but that didn't prevent a shitty podcast about one movie you all saw two years ago and two more movies you've never heard of. Plus, your phone calls!
Comedian and actor George Carlin passed away yesterday in California from heart failure. He was 71 years old. For further details, read the Yahoo News story...
I won't even attempt to summarize Carlin's career or his impact on comedy. The pre-written obits from the wire services have pretty much accomplished this. All I can really say is... George Carlin, in his prime, was a funny motherfucker. One of the funniest.
And I only add the qualifier "in his prime" because after the death of his wife in 1997, the tone of his act changed. Understandably, he got bitter and mean, and it clearly came through in his stand up routines. Sure he could be mean in his earlier shows, but it was a playful meanness.
His 1992 HBO special Jammin' in New York, to me, was the pinnacle of Carlin's stand-up act. My favorite bit he ever did came from that show, and I'm linking to it below. Who knows how long it'll stay online but enjoy it now while you can. The video eventually starts to go out of sync, but you can just listen to it and you'll get it all just fine.
This week, your studly host is a bit under the weather, so instead of running some lame "best of", the stage is given to you, the callers. Hilarity ensues. Enjoy.
I know you've waited a long time for this. And I'm sorry that it took so long.
I
had much more ambitious plans for the final installment of the official ABC25 blooper reels, but I kept putting it off and
putting it off, and so I decided to go ahead and get it out there as-is.
I
still have more material that I could use later, if I get creative.
This is as
political as I'll ever get on the podcast, and I got so bored listening
to it again that I had to just start inserting boobie pictures into the
video feed to stay awake.
Still, I expect a firestorm of controversy to surround my political comments, so flame on MFers.
A discussion about the movies veers sharply into political territory for the first and only time on the show. A caller wants to know what the deal is with John McCain, and it's all over after that.

Enjoy the Pockets of Sanity Podcast! Featuring your phone calls and emails, the Pockets of Sanity podcast was officially the greatest podcast ever recorded. And by that I mean it was the official podcast of this website. Sorry for the confusion.
